How Can We Reduce The Cost of Calling Our Branch Locations

As a long time customer of CPS, Eastern Auto Parts Warehouse presented us with the challenge of reducing their phone bills and increasing their employee productivity. After analyzing their phone bills, their employee’s communication needs, and their network structure, a Voice Over iP solution was developed.
The corporate office and many of the branch locations were already equipped with the Comdial FXII telephone system. The solution was simple: upgrade the remaining branch offices with FXII telephone systems and install Voice Over iP cards at all locations. Connections would then be made to the existing data network.
The end result was an integrated communication system allowing the entire staff to coordinate as one. Telephone calls from one location to another are now placed as internal calls and are routed over the data network. Employees are now able to communicate with other employees by dialing a 3 digit extension number and ringing directly to their station. Productivity was increased as a result of this streamlined means to communication. “It has saved people a lot of time trying to get a hold of someone”, says John Myers, Director of Information Systems. “From a customer service stand point we can now transfer calls instantly from one location to another instead of telling the customer to hang up and call another number. This led us to realize that during a computer system failure at one location we can take their calls and transfer them to their next closest location to complete their point of sale.”
After the deployment of the VOiP solution, phone bills and line usage was re-evaluated. The toll and long distance charges were dramatically decreased and it was noted that some phone lines could be removed at most locations due to the decreased call traffic. “In all locations, we’re already seeing a drastic reduction in long distance charges. Since most of out long distance was between locations, it has all but disappeared”, said Myers.
